Bridging ceremonies are a great way to celebrate the moving up of levels in girl scouts. Here are some ideas of where to go.
Little Falls Creek Bridge across Little Falls Creek (down the hill from Westmoreland Hills Park -- can also access from Brookway Drive Court).
Glen Echo Park Bridge across Minnehaha Creek at west entrance (large parking lot) to Glen Echo Park.
Shopping Malls Bridge from upper floor of parking garage into mall (at Montgomery Mall, Tysons, etc.)
Great Falls or C&O Canal The boardwalk hike out to the falls at Great Falls on the Maryland side has several bridges you cross and there are bridges at each lock on the canal.
Brookside Gardens There's a beautiful bridge at Brookside Gardens.
Hillwood Museum Bridge at Hillwood Museum in the Japanese garden (4155 Linnean Ave NW, Washington, DC).
National Zoo Use any one of several bridges at the National Zoo and combine it with a fun time seeing the animals.
Covered Bridges Go to one of the many covered bridges in Pennsylvania, Maryland or Virginia like pictured above!
Baked From Daisies to Brownies! Have daisies walk through a box covered in foil (like an oven).
Balloons of different colors Make your own bridge by connecting balloons in arches.
Here is a favorite poem we have for our bridging ceremonies:
Take my hand in friendship
I give to you this day.
Remember all the good times
We had along the way.
Take my hand in helping
Other people that we know.
The more we give to others,
The more that we will grow.
Take my hands in learning
To camp on nature's ground.
Enjoying trails and campfires
With new friends that we have found.
Take my hand in giving
Our knowledge of true scouts
To girls we meet and talk to
Who have so many doubts.
Take my hand in thanking
Our leader and our guide.
With sincere appreciation
For standing by our side.
Take my hand in eagerness
To be an older scout.
We're proud to be bridging
Is what we're going to shout.
So take my hand to follow
New scouting paths in sight.
We're joining hands with each
And in friendship we'll unite.
[In Unison:]
We give our hands in promise
To hold our country dear,
And abide the Girl Scout Law
Each day throughout the year.
