What is an Encampment?
An encampment is a multi-troop camping trip with opportunities for activities, campfires, SWAPS trading and more. Activities can be run by a committee, by all troops contributing an activity, or by hiring others. It can take place at a State or National campground, a Girl Scout campground or a commercial campground site. Having so many troops together allows scouts to experience camping on a different scale and really know what it is like to be part of a girl scout community. Interacting with scouts of different ages from various troops provides learning as well as teaching and leadership opportunities for all. |
Scouts' Own
Scouts' Own is a time for girl scouts to reflect on their experiences at the encampment, at other camping trips, on other girl scout activities, or just on being a girl scout. This reflection can be in the form of a banner with images and words, a poem or song, a skit or game, or just each girl taking a turn to say their favorite part or activity of scouts or the campout. Troops take turns with their presentations and then the encampment is finished off with a song (Make New Friends is a popular one) and/or a giant friendship circle.
Happy Trails to All!!
