According to the Girl Scouts website, Thinking Day is a day where Girl Scouts honor their sister Girl Scouts and Girl Guides by remembering their international friendships and that the USA is one of almost 150 countries that are members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).
When my troop goes to our Service Unit's annual Thinking Day celebration, we pick a country and try to teach the other girls a little bit about the country through our presentation. You could do a traditional dance to a song from that country, or a play about the country, or a fashion show, or really anything that can give a little information about a country.
One year, my troop picked Australia, and we did a fashion show. A couple girls announced it, and the rest of us were models. Each of us wore something that represented a different aspect of Australia. For example, I wore a bathing suit that represented all of Australia's beaches. Another year, we picked Ireland and we made up a play about leprechauns. It closely resembled an old folk tale, but we tweaked it a bit to fit our preferences! The next year, we didn't pick a specific country, but we did a play a bit like the Wizard of Oz, where a girl and her dog traveled around the world, learning a bit about each country they visited. The past two years we have lost interest in doing a presentation, but we still celebrated Thinking Day by learning about other countries. We went to a foreign restaurant one year, and we made a recipe and tried a snack from a country the next year. It is always really fun, whether you go to the celebration or not, or whether you do a presentation or not.
Postcard Exchange A great alternative or addition to celebrating scouts around the world is to join the postcard exchange. Sign up to send postcards to other troops throughout the world and receive postcards from them! http://www.postcrossing.com/
